Dear Jan,
I know of no “body count” of how many men would have been crucified at Calvary during Jesus’ time. But we do know that the Romans wanted their crucifixtions done in a very public place (so everyone would get the message!). Golgatha was right outside the city walls of Jerusalem in the First Century. We also know that two others were crucified with Jesus, so it was a site set up to handle multiple executions.
Crucifixtions were very common in the First Century. One of the prior rulers in Judea had crucified 1,000 Jews on Olive trees between Jerusalem and Bethlehem at one time in response to one perceived rebellious event!
As to where do you find “It is finished” in Psalm 22, one source would be the RSV where the very last phrase of Psalm 22 is “It is finished.”
Hope that helps!
Doug
is there any historical information on how often crucifixions took place at Golgotha? Also how long had it been around before Jesus crucifixion?
I can not find a verse in Psalm 22 that includes “it is finished”. Which one is Doug referring to?
